February is National Children’s Dental Health Month! Every February, the American Dental Association encourages adults, caretakers, teachers and other healthcare providers to step in and emphasize the importance of oral health. In honor of this important month, our dentist in Elk Grove Village wants to highlight some simple ways that you can help keep your children’s oral health interesting and exciting for them.
Lead by Example
Your kids look up to you in many ways, so why shouldn’t they be inspired by your oral health habits as well? Instead of telling your kids to brush and floss on their own, why not do it at the same time as them so it becomes a bonding experience? The time spent on oral health will quickly become a highlight of both of your days if you make it a family experience.
Incentivize Them
Nothing will motivate a child like an incentive. Talk with your kids and establish a realistic goal about oral health. For example, tell them if they brush their teeth twice a day for two weeks, they will get treated to dinner at their favorite restaurant. You can also treat them to rewards like going to a movie, getting ice cream or buying them a new toy.
Schedule Regular Dental Visits
Establish the importance of oral health with your child as soon as you can. One way to do this is by scheduling regular visits with our dentist in Elk Grove Village. You and your family members should be visiting the dentist at least once every six months.
Encourage healthy oral health habits for your family not only in February, but every month! Contact our team to schedule a dental cleaning.
