What is endodontics?
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry that specifically treats conditions that affect the inside of your tooth, namely the dental pulp and tooth nerves. Tooth decay, when it reaches past the protective shell of your tooth enamel, can cause a painful infection inside of your tooth. If the infection is allowed to progress, it can eventually lead to tooth and bone loss. We provide endodontic treatments at our dental office to treat your tooth and keep your smile healthy and strong. The most common endodontic treatment we offer is root canal treatment.
What is a root canal?
Root canal treatment is often simply called a root canal. It is a treatment designed to restore your tooth to optimal health and function. To perform a root canal treatment, Dr. Brian Homann will:
- Numb your tooth and the surrounding area with local anesthesia
- Remove all tooth decay, infected dental pulp, and damaged tooth nerves
- Place a rubber-like material inside the tooth to help seal the area where nerve was previously located
- Seal your tooth with a dental filling or dental crown
